It started to rain in the night. The morning was grey and windy, and it didn’t look like clearing out any time soon. So, wet tent packed.
There was some hills north from Vistytis. The wind was luckily southwest, so helping when travelling north. Kybartai town seems to be the main railroad hub towards Kaliningrad. I had no interest in stopping there, so I just rode through and continued.
The day’s route was mostly very boring. A lots of field, hefty side-wind, nothing much to see. The rain stopped, but the clouds were still hanging low above the landscape.
Sakiai was not too inspiring either, but I made a stop at the shop and bought myself bean and smoked chicken sallad and exceptionally one beer. I was cold and I knew that as I was about to turn west, it would be head wind. And so it was. I had a stop somewhere by a pond, ate the sallad but left the beer after all. Then I continued and it was some more rain.
I was also pondering the next night’s accommodation. The campsite listing shows that there is a campin in Jurbarkas, but having a second look, it’s actually 14 km east from Jurbarkas – wrong direction. Especially considering that the next day’s ride looked rather long, too, and westwards, meaning head wind.
But then I had a glimpse of cyclist’s luck. Few kilometers before Jurbarkas, the sun came out. And as I rode into the town, I spotted a camping sign at the roadside: Jurbarkas B&B might have a camping, too. So I went to ask. And yes, they have a garden where it’s possible to put up a tent. The old couple running the place were absolutely charming and very helpful. I took out my wet tent, put it to dry and opened my beer. I felt so lucky and happy. After the showet and laundry, I went to buy some food and cooked a dinner with buckwheat and canned turkey (Lithuanian, not so good). It was nice and quiet and I slept well.
