The route

I woke up at the hostel as the dorm-mates started to move. I didn’t have much for the breakfast, just a cup of coffee and dry bread from the tent sack. I packed my stuff and checked out at ten.

I went to tourist info and received some more maps of the Green Velo route. They also checked a campsite location in Goniadz for me. The lady was really helpful and I told her that I really enjoy the Green Velo route.

Then I quickly checked the beautiful palace in Bialystok and rode through its garden. I went to a sandwich bar to have a snack before being too hungry. In the outskirts of Bialystok, I went to the Piotr and Paul supermarket, which seems to be really well stocked and high end supermarket. I found nice things to eat, like canned chicken, pepper pastry, tomato-cheese spread, whole-grain buns. A lot better that the usual Biedronka market, which seems like a Polish version of Lidl.

The first leg of the day’s journey was just straightforward towards West. There was a bike lane, so it was easy riding. A slight headwind, but not badly. The most boring part was following an autobahn, road 67, and that was just pedalling forward.

I was running a bit late due to my late leave from Bialystok. It was already almost 5 pm as I started the most scenic stretch of the day, the Carska Droga road through a natural reserve. It had bautiful forest, a bog, more bautiful pine forest. It was 30 km to Goniadz, but I was rather fast. I reached the Goniadz village in good time, went to buy yoghurt and beer and went to find my campsite. The campsite turned out to be an “agroturystika”, very nice place. It had few cottages, place for tents, playground for kids, a pond and a bautiful garden. I set up my tent and cooked some buckwheat with the chicken at the table next to my tent.
